Weeee'll it's been a few days since I've posted. But that's ok, not much has gone on. Work has been pretty blah. Except that we've had electrical storms for the past week. And the past two days the power has blinked and my clock was reset. I wake up with about ten minutes to get out the door to work. I guess I shouldn't complain, it's not to awful early. On a good note I've been getting to know Taikara better. She has an ass-hole for a boyfriend. He's so suspicious and jealous. He yells at her for even looking cross-eyed at another guy. If he ever comes in here to get her I'm scared to even accknowledge her presence because I don't want to get her in trouble. I don't know why she stays with him. Otherwise things have been quiet. I might get to do some legitimate video editing. It'll be a learning experience, and I intend to put a it on my resume.
I'm emailing Kate a lot these days. I miss telling her about my day in the evenings. I didn't realize how much it relaxed me. She called me today and we talked for a while before her phone died. It was nice to hear her voice. And she's doing really great, she likes her job and she's been having fun with her friends. I can't wait to see her tomorrow. She really can lift my mood even when she doesn't mean to.
I can't wait for tomorrow to get here. I am getting all of my stuff together tonight and working until 2 tomorrow. Then I'm picking up Corry and Jen before heading to Richmond. Corry kinda drives me a little nuts. He's so nitpicky about everything, he has to have a reason(or equation) for everything that happens. He's also a liberal activist type. At least socially. I think I'm going to make a CD of patriotic country music for the trip, just to keep myself sane.
Kate won't be going to the event to see me fight. It's $25 bucks to get in. That's for both days....but still. It should be more around 12 max. Oh well. I can't wait to see everyone. Ox, Troy, Sarah, Susan, Angie, Dante, Djinn, it'll be awesome. I am soooo looking forward to a day of fighting and then a dip in the pool then relaxing for the rest of the time. I can't wait to hold my girl in my arms too :)
That's all for now, I have to go get ready for the trip. I probably won't get much sleep but hey that's part of the fun right?

Stupid Lightning

Daggumit I hate lightning today. There was a huge electrical storm last night. And not only did it keep me awake while I was trying to sleep at 2:30 this morning, but it kicked the breaker for my room. So I woke up and had about 10 minutes to get up and out the door. It was nice of Dad to make me some coffee though. He is on a rotating shift now and will get home sometime later tonight. At work today it wasn't to busy, but apparently we had some sort of meltdown last night and Taikara was up to her neck in trouble. So I'm staying later tonight to make sure everything is kosher and working. I spent most of the day in Torgerson tweaking things so that they work better. It turns out that the proffesors were messing things up and making trouble for her. It's all better now and I'm going to get out of here soon. I'll probably go watch the basketball game at BW3's tonight. Unless it's Karaoke then I will run away and find somewhere else to watch it. The other day I was there watching the game and they had this silly DJ there making a lot of noise and getting ignored. With my hair this short I must look really young. I had three bouncers come and card me randomly.

Only three more days until I see Kate!!

Softball & Update

Well I have to say that Shrek 2 was much better the second time around. I don't konw why. Maybe it was because I was with more people this time. Ryan, Daniel, Robbie and I went to see it after dinner on Saturday. Which was the buffet for Dad's birthday. It was nice and tasty if a bit bland. And I didn't stuff myself like I normally do. So anyway the movie was better when I had friends to laugh at it with me.

On Sunday there was no fighter practice which was a bummer because I wanted to fight with schlager and decide if I want to authorize this weekend at Saphire. I don't know if I will or not, I kinda want to but at the same time I don't. If I do auth then I have to fight with it in the tourney. If I use epee I have a much better chance to do well. Especially because the people I will be fighting people who have longer swords than me. But on the other hand Connor, Gunny, Aedan, Vyv, and Marcellus will be fighting so there's really no point in my trying to actually win. I'll just work out my right arm and do my best. It would be nice to win the saphire though. Two other people from BD have won it. It would be great to make it three, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Today I tried to sleep in but... it didn't work. Robbie was in charge of the little ones because Mom went somewhere. And I think Robbie might be going through some sort of hormone induced puberty, because his voice is just rough harsh and annoying. NO sleep for me. It's ok though, I got up early and did some laundry and cleaned my room. I was really kinda bored today. My house is just boring, I can't wait to get back to work. That just sounds weird. Kate went back to work today. She was worried about getting up early. I think she was getting to like sleeping a lot :). I think once she gets back into it she will be very happy. She's one of the hardest workers I know. Kate if you read this, leave a comment on how it went. I really miss her, and it seems like everyone I talk to is telling me how much they like spending time with their girlfriends. Well I'll see her in a few days and I can't wait!!!!

The softball game today was great. We played a good team that actually gave us a run for our money. I played third base for the first half of the game and then rested. I had a nice hit, I found a problem in my mechanics and fixed it. I drove the ball to left center field. The fielder missed it and it went past him. I was headed for second when I heard someone yell "THREE!!" so I made the turn and ran harder. I beat the ball by a few miliseconds. When I was standing on third waiting for Robbie to hit I realized that everyone had been yelling at me to stay at second. Oh well, it worked hehe. Robbie came up, he still can't hit the ball well at all and probably won't ever. But Dad keeps pushing him. Anyway he got a called ball and strike on him, so I knew that he was going to swing so I was ready. The pitcher fielded the ball and I ran two steps and stopped to see if I could distract him but he just turned and threw the ball to first. He got Robbie by a mile but I bolted towards home. The first baseman had a better arm than I anticipated so the ball actually beat me to the plate and it was a good throw, but I slid under the tag and scored. It was great, everyone was yelling and then telling me that they couldn't believe I ran. It was great, but I got a strawberry on my leg. Oh well, we won the game 17-10.

I guess I have to decide whether I want to do improv next year or not. Jac just posted a messege on his blog saying that he would take over and organize everything. Basically making himself head honcho with it. He said that anyone could take over from him or lead or do whatever. I don't know I'll have to decide. I dunno though, I'll have to think about it.

Saturday

OK I really shouldn't be this much awake this early. I had to get here at 8:30 to set up a class. And I was really really awake, not dead headed as I normally am at this time in the morning.

Tonight we're going to go to Roanoke for a buffet dinner for Dad. He says we're going to try and get there by 7 to beat the crowds. I tried to tell him that everyone gets there at 7 but he didn't believe me. Well I guess I'll just bring a book to read while we wait.

I hopefully can get my laundry done today. I'm getting desperate, there just hasn't been time for me to do it. But I guess that's what weekends are for now right? My weekends are going to be weird now that I'm off on Mondays. Shouldn't be to bad though, it also means that I won't miss any time for Memorial Day. Saphire is going to be great.

Speaking of Monday, the President is going to address the nation this Monday evening. He's going to talk about Iraq, Oil, and the economy. It's about time, he needed to give a good pep talk to the people in this country who are wavering. Of course He may have been speaking out and we just didn't hear it. What with the media still obsessing over th dead issue of Abu Grahib prison abuse(it was abusive, if someone else calls it torture I will hit them I don't care). Anyway I can't wait to hear what he says.

That's all for now, more later. Ciao

TGIF

Thank God it's Friday!!!! Well I guess I just like saying that. There's nothing really exciting going on this weekend. And for the first time in a long time I don't have anything to do on this Friday night. How weird is that? Oh well I'll probably end up somewhere watching the basketball game. I really really don't want the Lakers to win. They are so arrogant and annoying. It's kind of like the Yankees, everyone loves to hate them. Unless you live in NY or LA. I'm sad the Spurs lost though I really wanted them to repeat. Next year they need to look at adding a bigger scoring threat.

I want to tell about Wednesday. The DRAMA(an acronym for something) team came and did a bunch of mime workshops for the homeschool group. So on Wednesday they had a potluck dinner and performance thing that Mom invited me to. The dinner was ok I ate with Dad and Mom. It was nice to catch up with them. Turns out that my sense of humor makes my Dad laugh a lot more than Mom. Anyway after dinner we went into the sanctuary(BCF) and the team did a variety of mime presentations. I had mixed feelings about them. They did their mime stuff to contemporary music. I don't have a problem so much with the music. But I felt that the fusion of mime and interpretive dance didn't work so well. They should have done straight dance/acting for the music with words. And done mime to the music without words or with no music at all. Just my opinion. After they did their stuff, the HS kids did their skits. I was really impressed, I'll be working with most of them when I do my improv meeting for them next month. There were some kids that did a bang up job and have great potential. I can't wait to work with them.

Shrek 2
I went and saw Shrek 2 last night. It was great! Really funny, a little disapointing in that the new characters weren't given the chance to develop like they were in the first one. But the fact that I'm talking about character development in an animated movie is a testement as to how far they've come since Mickey. I really really really liked Puss In Boots. Since people call me "cute" too, I think I'll be like him and use this fact to......kill my enemies. I want to see it again with people I know, that always makes the movie watching experience better. Speaking of which I heard of a new drinking game the other day. Watch Blade II and every time Wesly Snipes goes into a dramatic "karate stance" you take a drink. That would be a lot of fun, almost makes me wish I drank.

Well I should be posting this weekend. I'm not going out of town or anything so I'll update regularly. Tomorrow should be interesting. We're going to celebrate Dad's birthday. We're going to have our own softball practice before the regular one. Then we're going to Golden Corall in Roanoke for some special seafood buffet. I guess some things never change, Dad still goes for quantity of quality every time. Oh well it could be fun, might be no fun too but we'll see.

That's all for now, everyone have a great weekend. Kate I love you!
Ciao

Wednesday, May 19, 2004

Well it turned out to be a fairly busy interesting day. I got a good amount of sleep, but I don't think I'm adjusted yet. I still get a headache around 3pm. Last night I rented a movie and came home early. I got an old 70s Japanese movie starring Sonny Chiba. For those of you who don't know who that is, he got famous for playing in three "Street Fighter" movies(years before the computer game). And then played Hatori Hanzo in the Kill Bill movies. In fact the movie I rented last night was a re-release and it said "Before the Street Fighter killed Bill", which I thought was a great line. It was a very low quality movie but I could apreciate it as a piece of movie history. Movies like this one are the inspiration for most of the high budget action movies we see today.

Anyway I got to work today and the computer that I had worked on for two hours last night was gone. Dave had fixed it or something and sent it back to NOVA with our tech from there. I spent the day looking for programs that would help us keep the computers in NOVA updated. Today was also "Staff Apreciation Day". So we got to go to the Rector Field House for some free food and free music. Well......the music definatly should have been free. It was a bad cover band playing Wilson Pickett songs. But the food was good and I got to see some people I hadn't seen a while like Roby, and Victor Bagely. One funny thing that happend was while we were watching people go through this huge inflatable obsticle course. Candle Bryan and I were standing near the place that people left their shoes while on the course. While we were standing there a girl came up, who worked for RDP and made the general comment "wow I smell like rubber now, of course I already smelled like shit before I got on that thing". I looked at her and said "You mean that shit we just ate?", without missing a beat she said "YES" and walked away. It was really funny.....it was.....I guess you had to be there.

Shrek 2 is out today!!!!!! I thought it was going to be this weekend! I'm going to see it tonight after some silly dinner thing with a drama team that's in town. I know they'll probably want to watch it next week at Saphire, but I'm sure I won't mind seeing it again. Oh yeah, calling them a drama team is kinda a stretch. What they really are is Mimes. They do mim skits to christian music. They also do workshops to show local drama groups and church groups how to do them also. They have good ideas but I thought it was kinda lame. One funny thing come from it though, when I was talking to my Mom about the little ones being in the workshops she told me that Robbie and Daniel didn't want to do it and that she didn't make them. At first I wa about to protest and say that she should make them do it if they were scared or had stage fright. But before I could say this she said "I would force them if they had any potential...". I couldn't help laughing at this point because she didn't realize what she'd said, when she did realize it just made it more funny. It's horrible I know, but it's true....and funny.

Kate called today too!! =) She was in a very very good sounding mood. Even though she was stuck in the car with three drooling dogs. She called to give me her new cell number. She's going to use her Mom's phone this summer because she can't get Tracphone minutes on her other phone to be local to Richmond. I don't know why but I'm def not getting Tracphone when I get new service next month. I'm getting Verizon, hopefully with free minutes to other Verizon users. Which will mean that I'll be able to call Troy, Sarah, Susan, Ox, Joe, Eric, and Nick all for free.

An open letter to the US Olympic commitee

To whom it may concern,
I am writing this to voice my disappointment in hearing that US athletes are being told not to celebrate with the flag. And not to do anything that might be insulting or confrontational. This to me sounds a lot like cowardice, as though we are ashamed of who we are or ashamed that we have won an event. I know as Americans our image has taken a blow(although not rightly so) for some things that have happened around the world. But this kind of statement makes it seem like we are embarrassed of who we are or what we represent. And that plays right into critics hands and makes them dislike us even more. How about instead telling the athletes to be proud of their country and to act accordingly. To demonstrate things that make this country great, such as hard work, sportsmanship and a great celebratory spirit. We should not and are not ashamed of who we are or where we come from. This fact needs to be displayed to the world more than ever now. If this was the intent of your statement, it was not communicated well and steps need to be taken to correct this. Thank you for your time and I hope that the US will be represented in a great and honorable way this summer.

Yawn

Wow I need a nap. I got about, 7 hours of sleep last night, that really should have been enough. Maybe I just need cafeine. Oh well. Today there was almost nothing to do here at work. We made some deliveries and bulk erased tapes. That's it. We have a new girl working for us instead of Ludwig. Her name is Taikara, she is American even though her name doesn't sound like it. It's kinda weird though, the estrogen level has been really high since she got here. She and Nancy have talked about things like who and when to marry, or what movie you can see which movie stars butt in. Before it was Ludwig and me ganging up on Nancy. I hope when Joe gets back from training that it will get better.

We won the softball game yesterday. It was a really good game, I played shortstop for the first half of the game. I made one really good throw to get a runner to first. It was a hard grounder deep in the 5/6 hole. Matt couldn't get to it but I was playing deep so I got to it and threw as hard as I could. The throw felt good, my shoulder had been hurting during warmups but this one I got the mechanics right and beat the runner by a step. The umpire was really cool about it to, he gave a really loud "Yourrrr out!!!!" it was great. In the second half of the game things kind of fell apart for the other team. They made so many errors it wasn't even funny. After a while it just got kind of mean, we tried making our guys just keep running in hopes that they would get out, but it didn't work. They ended it on a double play by tagging out Daniel(my brother) who still doesn't know what he's doing. The score ended up being 33-3.

After the game I went over to Jen and Julies. The mood was not so cool there, Julie had just lost her job. I don't know any details but I do know they are letting her resign instead of firing her which is good. It won't keep her from getting another job. We decided we needed to lighten the mood so we rented My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Which is hilarious, omg it's funny. I hate to think of what would happen if I ever told my parents that I wanted to marry someone they didn't know.
We might go swimming today if Julie calls me. She might have gone to her parents house but if not she was going to call me.

That's it for now. I'm gonna go hunt cafeine or a nap.

Weekend

Time for the weekend update.

The weekend was kind of bittersweet I guess would be a good way to put it. I went up to Ox's for a 'pool' party. And I got to see Kate which was a bigger bonus. The party itself was kinda lame. Kate was the only girl there because Susan was sick and didn't want to come up. I don't blame her really but that meant that it was a house full of guys. And when you put Joe, Vlad and Danny into a room together for a long time the conversation will get old really really fast. Ox was pretty much beat all weekend. He'd had a long week at work. But he was still as hospitible as ever. Kate and I kinda kept to ourselves some of the time. If Susan, Troy or Sarah had been there it would have been much better. But as it was I got to spend a lot of Quality time with Kate. We had the back bedroom to ourselves hehehe! The sad part is I won't see her for two weeks. I already miss her and it was hard as hell to say goodbye to her. It'll be alright though, I'll call her this week sometime to catch up. And I think she reads this blog too =). Everyone there was pretty tired form work or school or both. Kate was pretty exhausted too. She needs to sleep for about a week and get back into the swing of things. Saphire will be a blast!!! Everyone will be there and there will be lots of stuff to do.

OOPS I just checked the schedule and I'm only supposed to work until 5. I thought I was here until 7. Cool! I guess I can go get some dinner before they softball game tonight. Tonight we play our long time rival Slussers chapel. We should beat them pretty easily though because they have a B league team that they put all of their good players on. I hope we don't have 21 players like we did last time. It would be nice to play more than three innings. Although I haven't been to the practices so I guess I don't deserve it. But I've only gotten out twice this season, and I'm a much better fielder than most of the younger guys.

That's all for now. We saw Troy over the weekend. I really liked it and I'll write a review of it tomorrow.

War within a war - The Washington Times: Commentary - May 13, 2004

Thomas Sowell has a great commentary in todays Washington Times. He calls for everyone to keep things in perspective and act like adults. One of the things he says is that Historians might remember us as the "childish generation". I hope not I hope we can show a little bit of maturity that our posterity will apreciate. But it's hard not to agree with him. Our media has an orgasm every time something big and splashy comes along that will serve their purpose. Leftists call us bigots, and scum when we dare disagree with them. Then call us mean spirited when we won't appologize for standing up for what we believe. Conservatives let themselves be bullied into voting for things that they don't believe in so that they won't look bad. Maybe we are the "childish generation". I can only be steadfast in what I believe and applaud those who do also!!

Mornings suck

Well it's started. I have to adjust to a new sleep/work schedule. I went to bed early last night hoping it would help. Well....so much for that idea. I got up at 9 to head to work and my body decided it hated me for that. The conversation would have gone something like this.

Body: What are you doing?
Me: Getting up, we have to be at work at 10.
Body: Shut up! We should be asleep.
Me: We just slept for 7 hours.
Body: Whatever, do you know what time it is?
Me: umm...9am, we have half an hour to get ready for work...
Body:(not listening) Bad Jeremy, go back to bed! Leg cramp for you!

Even coffee didn't help. And I had a few frustrating problems here at work when I got in. It's weird I haven't been able to shake that "just got up feeling". And it's 2pm! Oh well.

I heard a good quote on the radio this morning. "Worrying about your weight is like trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum". I think that's great, and it can actually apply to more things than just weight.

Troy asked me for my resume today. I didn't realize how long it had been since I updated it. And I also didn't realize how much it needed to be proofed. He went through it like three times for me. Which was awesome and really helpful. But now he probably thinks I'm even more incompetent. Oh well, I'll just climb the ladder here for now. People with my skills are a dime a dozen.

I'll update again later, I might review Van Helsing and/or put up some reading links. Nancy had gone home for today so after I run this little errand I have to make up work to do. Fun, but I might run out of things to do.

This is a test post from my News Aggregator.

Here is an account of what happend at Night of Fools in Maryland. I wrote this so that I wouldn't have to explain it to people over Instant Messenger.

Night of fools is a rapier only SCA event held in Annapolis Maryland each year. It's focus is on the more foolish or playful aspects of the SCA. There was a single elim "Fools Tourney" to start with. This tourney gave prizes for best fools parrying device, best fools death and the winner of the actual tourney.(For the non SCA people, this is a fencing tournament where you fake your death when you are hit and you can have an object to parry the other persons sword with in addition to your own blade). I drew Kenji in the first round, I was surprised that this guy fought so much like me. He got he killed me using one of my own tricks while I was thinking of this very fact. It was a good fight though and I had a cool looking death, but nobody was watching.

After the tourney came the melee's, which are my favorite situation in fencing. It wasn't very cool though because the opposite team was stacked. We did have the King and the Duke on our side which was awesome considering that in the past rapier fighters had been looked down on by the crown. There were three scenario's that we ran. The first was a fort type battle, the second was a battle in a ravine, and the third was a battle over a bridge sort of like in Robin Hood. My team basically got spanked in the ravine and fort battles but the bridge battle was a different story. The way it was set up was that each team would send a fighter on to the bridge one at a time. If you got too close to the edge you were called dead. If you won the fight you stayed on the bridge if you lost you got off. I was second to the last person on my team to go. And the fighter I faced was non-other than Kenji. Before I went out on the bridge I calmed myself down and tried to get focused. At this point EVERYONE was watching because there wasn't anything else going on. I don't remember many of the details of the fight unfortunately. I typically fight pretty fast and use reactions and instincts more than I should. I do remember that I pushed Kenji back and took his arm on our first pass. On the second he couldn't keep up because I had a parrying device and he didn't, so I got him to take a step backwards and killed him. The next guy to come out was a yellow scarf(there are three levels blue, yellow, and white scarfs. I'm a blue scaf, all you have to do to get a blue scarf is authorize to fight. Very few people get promoted from blue scarf). We went a few passes and ended up double killing. It was fun, and I found out something I need to work on. The rest of the day was just pickups until court.

For those of you who don't know me as well, I have never won an SCA award or been called into court. Not even local baronial court. This court was pretty cool, I like this king, Cuan is a really nice guy. Alexander/Alice was recognized for getting her yellow scarf. I enjoyed that, she really deserves it. Troy won the best death prize, and Duke Ragnarr won the overall tourney. Marcellus got a sharks tooth for fighting at the fort battle. While he was getting it Kate asked me what it was. A sharks tooth is an award given by the King or Queen for tenacity and valor on the field of battle. It is mostly given by the King to heavy fighters. It's fairly rare for a fencer to get it, and usually to a White Scarf or a respected Yellow Scarf. Troy has two, Freddy has one(his is actually for heavy though), and Gunny has three. So as I was telling Kate, it's really the only award I've ever wanted in the SCA. I didn't think I would ever get one, at least not for a long time. Right as I finished telling her this the herald called my name to come into court. After saying a very quiet "oh shit" I went up and kneeled in front of the thrones. I had no idea what was coming.....I was nervous as hell. The King looked at me and asked me how old I was and said I was the same age as when he got knighted. He looked around and named a few names of experienced and respected fighters and said "I expect speed, valor and excellence on the fencing field from these people, and today I saw it in you. I am going to give you my sharks tooth in appreciation of things you did today and in anticipation of things you will do in the future." At this point you probably could have knocked me over with a feather. But I was already sitting down. The King put the sharks tooth around my neck and signald to me to stand up so he could shake my hand. I didn't have my Award of Arms though so I couldn't stand up. He asked me if I had an AoA and I said no. So he looked at the Queen, the Duke and the Herald to ask if they had any objections. They shook their heads no, then he looked at me and said "It is my pleasure to raise you to the ranks of our Nobility and give you and Award of Arms." When he said this everyone started cheering as I stood up and shook his hand. They gave me vivats as I bowed and left the throne area, but I barely heard them. As soon as court was over I was mobbed by Brianna, Jen, Kate, Dante, Connor, and Ishan. I was totally blown away. Not only was I just the second Blue Scarf ever to get a Sharks Tooth, but it was Cuan's tooth that he had earned on the heavy field. On top of that I was spontaneusly granted a Lordship by their Majesties. The feeling was like hitting a game winning home run in a baseball game. I think I'm still in shock and I know I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

Another good article to read. I don't always agree with the CSM but this is a great perspective.

Here is a detailed account of what is going on in Falujah. This is from the front-line, not a defeatist media bulletin.
